Excavated in 1458 by the Maharaja of Tripura, Dharma Manikya I, this vast rectangular tank covering over 23 acres was built to relieve famine and provide fresh drinking water to the local population. Shaded walking paths, century-old trees and manicured gardens now line the banks, where families stroll and rowboats glide across open water in the afternoon. The adjoining municipal park and tea stalls make it the central evening social gathering point of Cumilla.
