Sonahat Bridge সোনাহাট ব্রিজ

A 19th-century British steel-truss railway bridge over the Dudhkumar river, built for military routes to Assam and still carrying road traffic.

The British built this steel girder bridge in 1887 across the Dudhkumar river to link the Lalmonirhat rail network with Guwahati and supply frontier outposts in Assam. After the line fell out of railway use following the 1965 India–Pakistan war, the bridge was converted into a single-lane road crossing for north Kurigram. Its long red iron trusses span the wide sandy riverbed, set against views of distant tea-country foothills across the border on clear mornings. Heavy vehicles are restricted to protect the fragile century-old structure.
