Founded in the mid-18th century by Binodi Lal Munshi, an officer under the Kashimbazar estate, the estate was expanded by his adopted son Brajendra Lal Munshi into a grand country residence. The complex once spread across nearly forty acres and combined Mughal brick arches with colonial-era verandahs and decorative plaster. Several historic temples dedicated to Shiva and Durga stand on the grounds beside an old brick bathing ghat. While some rooms serve as local government offices, the quiet tree-shaded courtyards preserve the feel of an old Bengal estate.
