The Chitra River meanders directly past Narail town, offering wide muddy banks fringed by palm trees and bathing stairs. Colonial-era Victoria Bridge and the newer Sheikh Russel Bridge span the water, connecting the market stalls of Rupganj to the greener western quarter. Every autumn, thousands line the riverbank to witness the lively Sultan Boat Race, where long wooden racing canoes with dozens of oarsmen compete to drumbeats. On regular afternoons, hiring a small rowboat provides a soothing escape on the river.
