Founded in 1916 through contributions from regional zamindars and named after Lord Carmichael, the Governor of Bengal, Carmichael College remains northern Bengal's premier higher education landmark. The main academic building spans 610 feet in length, built in exposed red brick with a dramatic fusion of Mughal domed cupolas, pointed arches, and classical colonial colonnades. The campus grounds feature historic residential halls, sprawling water bodies, century-old mahogany and rain trees, and memorial monuments. Walking the corridors reveals grand brick arcades that reflect Bengal's educational history.
