Raja Rupchandra Ray founded the Lakutia zamindari estate in the early 18th century, and his descendants expanded it with two-storey residences, office pavilions and tiered Shiva temples. While the residential buildings are unmaintained and reclaimed by creepers, the ornamental brick cornices and terracotta carvings on the temple spires remain intact. A large bathing pond sits before the main mansion under old banyan trees. Watch your step around crumbling brickwork and uneven floors.

How to get to Lakutia Zamindar Bari
In Lakutia village, about 8 km north of Barishal city centre. Take an auto-rickshaw or CNG from Nathullabad or C&B Road in about 20 minutes.
Barishal town is about 180 km from Dhaka, around 3.5 hours by road. Every way to get there is in the Barishal guide.
The main palace is derelict; do not enter interior rooms with fractured ceilings or unstable stairs.
