Barishal is the riverine hub of the southern delta, defined by the broad Kirtankhola River and a web of tidal channels. Travellers arrive on overnight multi-deck launches from Dhaka or drive across the Padma Bridge to explore grand religious landmarks and rural zamindar estates. Beyond the city, wide dighis and orchard-lined waterways show the slower tempo of southern Bengal.
