Jhalokathi is a compact riverine district west of Barishal, threaded by interconnected waterways like the Gabkhan Canal and Sugandha River. During the monsoon, travellers hire wooden dinghies to navigate the floating guava and hog plum markets that fill the canals around Bhimruli. Beyond the orchards, village workshops in Rajapur weave traditional cane mats while old zamindar houses stand along rural riverbanks.
