Patuakhali extends south to the Bay of Bengal, where the long curved shoreline of Kuakata looks out over open sea. Travellers come to watch both sunrise and sunset from the same wide beach, explore coastal forests of casuarina and keora, or visit historic Rakhine settlements and Buddhist shrines. In the rural interior, the 15th-century brick mosque at Majidbaria stands as the oldest surviving monument in the division.
