Isolated in the wide Meghna estuary east of the mainland island, Monpura is home to open pastures, wild deer, and mangrove woodlands. The island remains untouched by heavy road traffic, and life centres on fishing settlements, betel nut plantations, and wandering buffalo herds that produce raw milk for traditional curd. Travellers cycle along paved embankment roads or watch sunsets over the endless river waters. Electricity on parts of the island still relies on solar setups and evening generators.

How to get to Monpura Island
Accessible only by water. Daily sea trucks and motor launches leave Tajumuddin ghat or Char Fasson in Bhola, crossing the Meghna to Monpura in about 2 hours.

Boat services are suspended during monsoon gale warnings or heavy river turbulence; bring sufficient cash.
