Mir Jumla II built this brick fortress in 1660 to protect Dhaka and Bikrampur from Magh and Portuguese river pirates. A huge circular raised platform dominates the enclosure, once used to mount heavy cannons overlooking the river junction. The fort later served as a British residence and an administrative depot before being restored. Walk along the ramparts for a clear view across the surrounding canals and rooftops.
