Satkhira provides the most direct road gateway into the western Sundarbans, where the Malancha, Raimangal and Kholpetua rivers empty into tidal estuaries. From the forest stations at Munshiganj and Burigoalini, day-trippers hire motorized wooden trawlers to cruise through creeks lined with sundari and golpata palms, reaching the Kalagachhia eco-tourism centre. Kalagachhia features an elevated wooden canopy walkway and a steel watchtower overlooking spotted deer, rhesus macaques and estuarine crocodiles. Wear dull earthy tones and carry sufficient drinking water and sunscreen aboard the boat.
