Sirajganj town sits on the western shore of the massive braided Jamuna river, known for its powerful monsoon currents and shifting sandbars. To protect the town from severe erosion, engineers constructed the concrete-and-boulder embankment known as the Hard Point and Cross Dam. Today, this riverside promenade is the town's prime gathering spot, especially in the late afternoon. Visitors stroll along the embankment enjoying river breezes, while local boatmen offer rides across the wide waters to isolated chars (seasonal silt islands) where local farming communities live amidst rolling sands.
