Gazetted as a wildlife sanctuary in 2010, Tengragiri spans over 10,000 acres of coastal forest often called the Second Sundarbans. Elevated walkways and wooden bridges wind through the mangrove canopy where spotted deer, rhesus macaques, and water monitors roam. A sandy beach stretches along the southern edge where the forest meets the sea. Hire a local guide at the forest office for walks off the main boardwalk.

Carry drinking water and insect repellent; paths can become slippery and flooded during full moon high tides.
