Popular accounts date the original brick shrine and prayer house back centuries to the arrival of the Sufi preacher Hazrat Shah Jamal, whose tomb lies on the northern side. Abandoned and buried under silt and overgrown jungle for generations, the structure came to light in the 1960s after a severe storm uprooted a massive banyan tree above it. The building features brick walls nearly six feet thick at their base and sits beside a village pond. As an active place of prayer, modest dress is requested.
