Lalon Shah founded his akhra here beside the Kaliganga river in the late 19th century, preaching humanism and composing over a thousand mystic songs. The modern white-domed tomb complex was built in 1963 and holds the grave of the philosopher alongside his disciples. An adjoining research centre and auditorium hosts discussions, but the real draw is the veranda where bauls tune their ektaras to sing into the night. Remove your shoes before stepping onto the marble platform of the tomb.
