From 1871 until modern bridge links transformed transit across the delta, Goalando Ghat was the primary transport interchange of eastern Bengal. Travellers from Kolkata stepped off from trains to board overnight steamers to Narayanganj, Sylhet and Guwahati, enjoying the spicy fowl curry cooked on board. Today Daulatdia ghat remains a major ferry terminal on the Padma where river ferries and wooden trawlers cross the brown water. Stalls along the landing stage cook freshly caught hilsa and river prawns to order.

How to get to Goalando Ghat and Daulatdia
At Daulatdia on the Padma, about 15 km east of Rajbari town. Local buses and shared auto-rickshaws run frequently along the highway in 25 minutes.
