Founded in 1854 by English planter Mr. Hudson, Malnicherra covers over 1,500 acres and marks the historical birthplace of commercial tea cultivation in Bangladesh. Tall shade trees canopy gently sloping earthen hillocks (tillas) planted with deep green tea shrubs and rubber trees. Unlike the heavily commercialized tourist spots on the border, Malnicherra remains a functioning, working estate where visitors can walk quietly along shaded red-dirt estate tracks. Stop by the roadside tea shacks near the gate for freshly brewed orange pekoe tea and local biscuits.
