Chattogram is the country's principal seaport and second city, set between the forested ridges of the Hill Tracts and the blue waters of the Bay of Bengal. For centuries Arab, Portuguese and Mughal seafarers anchored along the Karnaphuli River, leaving a legacy of maritime trade, Sufi shrines and mountain temples. Today the city blends modern shipping and commerce with sandy beaches, hill trails, and its famous mezban feasting tradition.
