Occupying the eastern banks of the Meghna estuary where broad river channels meet the open Bay of Bengal, Noakhali is a dynamic delta district shaped by shifting sands, fertile chars, and maritime trade. Its administrative seat at Maijdee was founded inland after river erosion engulfed the original colonial town in the mid-20th century. Beyond its thriving markets, visitors journey across waterways to isolated sandy islands where deer roam mangrove reserves.
