Fronting the wide lower reaches of the Meghna river, Lakshmipur is an estuarine district of fertile alluvial soil, dense betel-nut plantations, and quiet watercourses. Its rural bazaars trade vast harvests of coconuts, betel nuts, and fresh Hilsha caught where river channels flow into the Bay of Bengal. Travelers come to explore colonial-era landlord estates and riverside embankments offering uninterrupted views across miles of tidal water.
