British entrepreneur Robert Russell Carew set up this sugar refinery and distillery complex in 1897, which became a state-owned industrial enterprise after 1971. Vast sugarcane crushing units, colonial brick bungalows, and spirit fermentation tanks spread across several hundred acres near the Darshana rail border. During the winter harvest season, lines of tractors laden with fresh cane queue outside the main gates. Entry to the active industrial plants requires prior official permission from management.

How to get to Carew & Co.
In Darshana, roughly 22 km south of Chuadanga town. Local buses or shared auto-rickshaws from Chuadanga bus stand run down the highway in about 45 minutes.

Entering the factory floor and distillery requires written permission from the mill authorities.
