Bordering West Bengal along the meandering Mathabhanga and Bhairab rivers, Chuadanga developed as an early hub of British railway expansion and sugarcane cultivation. In 1862 the Eastern Bengal Railway laid tracks through here, and later the subcontinent's oldest operational sugar distillery took root at Darshana. Beyond its industrial heritage, rural villages retain memories of rebel poet Kazi Nazrul Islam and decisive guerrilla engagements from the 1971 Liberation War.
