In the mid-18th century, the peasant rebel Shamsher Gazi wrested control of Chakla Roshnabad from the Tripura king and established his own brief administration from this red-clay ridge. The surviving site holds overgrown earthen ramparts, a large ceremonial pond known as Kaiyar Dighi, and traces of brick tunnels used as defensive bunkers. Few casual tourists reach this quiet border outpost, but local elders readily point out the outline of the old moat. Wear sturdy walking shoes, as paths across the mound can be slippery with fallen leaves.
