Jamalpur stretches along the Old Brahmaputra and Jamuna rivers up to the Meghalaya border. Famous for its fine needlework quilts and traditional brass casting, the district moves from river char settlements in the west to quiet Sal forests and low hills in the north. Regular intercity trains from Dhaka make it an easy base for exploring the northern borderlands.
