Bordered by the broad Jamuna river to the west and sal forests to the north-east, Tangail is celebrated for its weaving traditions and zamindar heritage. Generations of weavers in Pathrail have crafted the acclaimed Tangail sari on pit looms, while sixteenth- and seventeenth-century terracotta mosques stand beside quiet river channels. The district also produces sweet Porabari chomchom and pineapples from the red clay hills.
