Mymensingh sits along the wide, quiet channel of the Old Brahmaputra river, serving as the cultural heart of north-central Bangladesh. Long the seat of wealthy Hindu zamindars who funded grand schools and mansions, the city blends European colonial architecture with broad river embankments and academic campuses. It is an unhurried, characterful stop just a few hours north of Dhaka.
