Maharaja Suryakanta Acharya Chowdhury constructed this lodge in 1879, naming it after the district collector Alexander. Built using timber and corrugated iron frames to survive severe tremors, locals dubbed it Lohar Kuthi (the Iron Cottage). The retreat hosted notable visitors including poet Rabindranath Tagore in 1926 and Viceroy Lord Curzon in 1904. Today it stands inside the Teachers' Training College grounds; visitors can admire the surviving woodwork and Gothic gables from the outside.
