The zamindars of Muktagachha trace their lineage to Srikrishna Acharya Chowdhury, who was granted the pargana in 1727. Over the following century the family branched into several estates, the largest being the Aat Ani Rajbari, which once had a revolving wooden performance stage and a pair of twin Shiva temples. Although parts of the palace grounds fell into neglect after 1947, the Department of Archaeology has undertaken gradual repairs. Pair your walk with a box of freshly made monda from the original Gopal Pal confectionery down the road.
