Pathrail is the primary weaving center behind the world-famous Tangail sari, an art form protected by geographical indication status. Walking down the village lanes, the rhythmic clatter of wooden flying shuttles echoes from almost every household and courtyard workshop. Master weavers use fine cotton, mulberry silk and gold zari thread to produce distinctive jacquard border designs and delicate butidar body patterns. Many master weavers maintain showrooms beside their looms where visitors can purchase handloom saris directly.
