Local folklore recounts that King Mukut Roy had this enormous 52-bigha reservoir excavated during a severe drought in the medieval period, naming it after the drum whose beats could be heard across its water expanse. Legend claims the waters refused to rise until the queen herself stepped down the stone ghats, where she was swept away into the depths. Today the quiet reservoir is wrapped by embankments shaded by palm and banyan trees, offering an unhurried escape for birdwatchers in winter.
