Stretching from tidal river wharves along the Rupsha and Bhairab rivers down to the mangrove wilderness of the Sundarbans, Khulna is south-western Bangladesh's main commercial centre. The city serves as the departure point for multi-day forest cruises sailing past tidal creeks, muddy channels, and wildlife watchtowers at Karamjal and Hiron Point. Recent road and rail links across the Padma Bridge have cut journey times from Dhaka to less than half of what they were.
