In the late 17th century, Raja Sitaram Ray established his independent capital here at Bhushana, now Mohammadpur, building a fortified complex with canals, barracks and brick halls. Today visitors can see the two-storey treasury and kachari bari, the remains of the Dashabhuja and Lakshmi Narayan temples, and large reservoirs including Ram Sagar. The brickwork shows fine terracotta details and arched chambers preserved by the Department of Archaeology. Wear comfortable shoes as the ruins and dighi embankments are spread across several open fields.
