On 17 April 1971, in a quiet mango orchard at Baidyanathtala near the Indian frontier, the first government of Bangladesh was formally declared and sworn into office before international journalists. The complex features a monument designed by architect Tanveer Naquib, with 23 triangular brick pillars that signify 23 years of Pakistani rule. Across the park, a vast relief map of Bangladesh displays the battle sectors and refugee routes of the Liberation War, accompanied by life-size sculptures depicting historic wartime moments. Walk quietly through the preserved mango orchard where the actual stage stood.
