Local history traces this temple to the era of Raja Gowala Chowdhury, with surviving inscriptions documenting a major rebuild in 1332 of the Bengali calendar by devotee Pachu Bala Dasi. During the 1971 Liberation War, occupation forces vandalised the interior, but community members restored the deity and rebuilt the prayer halls shortly after independence. The temple anchors the annual Boishakhi Sankranti fair and grand Durga Puja celebrations, filling the narrow streets of Boro Bazar with traditional music and stalls. Remove shoes at the exterior gateway before entering.

Situated in the Boro Bazar area in central Meherpur town, easily reached by a short rickshaw ride from any town bus counter.
