Spanning Mohanganj and Kalmakanda upazilas, Dingapota is one of the largest haors in northern Bangladesh, covering tens of thousands of acres. In the monsoon from July to October, the basin fills with open water that stretches to the horizon, dotted with raised island villages that appear to float on the surface. During the winter dry season, the waters recede to reveal endless green boro rice fields and bird-filled beels where ducks and herons gather. Hire a motorized country trawler from Mohanganj ghat for a day-long journey across the open waters.
