Founded in the 17th century by Srinath Roy, Rayerkathi was the seat of one of the oldest landed estates in the southern delta. The estate preserves several centuries-old brick structures, including the residential palace ruins, ancestral reception halls, and a cluster of terracotta Shiva temples. The largest temple enshrines an enormous black stone Shiva lingam, considered one of the largest in Bengal. Every year during Shivaratri, an annual rural fair gathers around the temple grounds.
