Mughal commander Raja Man Singh marched into this area in the late sixteenth century to subdue Raja Kedar Roy, one of Bengal's powerful Baro-Bhuiyan chieftains. A fierce conflict concluded here with Kedar Roy's demise, prompting the Mughals to rename the site Fatehjangpur, or 'fort of victory in battle.' Traces of old earthen ramparts, a wide pond and the grave of Mughal general Fateh Khan survive in the village. It provides a quiet stop for travellers interested in medieval military struggles.
