Nilphamari takes its name from the British indigo plantations of the 19th century and today forms an agricultural hub fed by the Teesta irrigation network. The busy rail and aviation crossroads of Saidpur anchors its southern edge, home to colonial workshops and famous porcelain-tiled minarets. To the west, the ancient waters of Nilsagar draw thousands of winter visitors and waterfowl beneath high tree-lined banks.
