Thakurgaon occupies the northwestern agrarian plains between the Tangon and Kulik rivers, bordered on three sides by India. Known across Bangladesh for its fragrant, fiberless Suryapuri mangoes and extensive sugarcane cultivation, the district preserves an exceptional concentration of late-feudal architecture. Travelers can explore the intricate terracotta minarets of Jamalpur Zamindar Mosque, walk beneath the colossal canopy of a two-century-old mango tree, and inspect the decaying courtyards of Haripur Rajbari.

How Thakurgaon got its name
The name Thakurgaon traces back to an influential local Brahmin family known by the title Thakur, specifically linked to Narayan Chakraborty and his descendants who established a settlement along the Tangon River. The settlement came to be known as Thakurer Gaon (village of the Thakurs), later condensed to Thakurgaon.
